My professional experience in a semi-small nutshell

CCH/Wolters Kluwer

I am currently a Web Designer at CCH / Wolters Kluwer in Wichita, Kansas and have been since November 2008. I was promoted in June 2010 to Web Designer II. The Wichita branch of CCH is dedicated to Tax and Accounting. CCH is 'the leading provider of information services, software and workflow tools for tax, accounting, legal and business professionals' (www.cch.com).

The software I work with is called Site Builder, a content management system specialized for accountants. Our sales team brings in accounts from all over the United States as well as Canada. As a designer, I work with these clients to build, maintain and manage their websites. We have recently launched a new version of Site Builder and I am very proud to have been a part of the development process from beginning to end. I filled many roles throughout the process - from testing, writing up bugs and fixing bugs to being a key player in the development of the user interface.

Newman University

Before joining CCH in November 2008, I was the Web Editor and Writer at Newman University also in Wichita. Starting the position at a temporary standpoint in August 2006, Newman was looking to develop its own website instead of having the work outsourced. Working with the University Webmaster, the Director of Communications as well as the University Relations team as a whole, we began building a website that we felt fit Newman.

My main role in the extensive project was working with numerous University constituents building the content and graphics of all the department areas of the site and putting it all together. After the new site was built and presented, administration approved the project in moving forward. With this decision, my position became permanent.

Some of my other many roles at Newman included:

• Writing and producing a weekly newsletter sent to all University students, alumni, friends, family, faculty, staff, and contributors
• Designing marketing material and managing the electronic marquee sign for the University
• Writing news releases and other various stories for the University Relations team
• Serving as Chair for the Car Rally as a part of the University's 75th Anniversary

Back in the day

For a short time after graduating from Emporia State University (ESU) in May 2006, I temporarily designed website comps for CivicPlus in Manhattan, Kansas. Before my senior year at ESU I was an intern at PlattForm Advertising in Olathe, Kansas. For a couple years in college I worked as a member of the Web Team in the Public Affairs and Marketing Department as well as being a Web Designer for the Union Activities Council.
